About the Format: As you may have heard, the 2021 AAAS Annual Meeting is going virtual. Online meetings are different than face to face meeting, so we have created a format aimed to making more of the program available to attendees.

For the upcoming conference, instead of streaming one 90-minute scientific panels, each session will comprise of pre-recorded “spotlight videos” along with a live 35-minute full panel. Each accepted speakers will pre-record 20-minute “spotlight videos” to be released starting in January. The first half of the video will be the speaker presenting their work, followed by a discussion between the speaker and a respondent. During a live event in February, all session panelists will join together to discuss interactions among their work, as well as addressing audience questions.
The AAAS Annual Meeting Scientific Program Committee is particularly interested in proposals that connect to the theme. However, proposals not directly related to the theme will be considered if they involve ground-breaking areas of research, new and exciting developments or new angles for approaching a topic, or cross-cutting activities in support of science, technology, and education.
